A well-established specialist contractor based in Liverpool is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to take ownership of the commercial function within the business.

This is a genuinely stand-alone role, offering the opportunity to become the business’s sole Quantity Surveyor and play a key part in shaping commercial performance across live projects. It would suit someone who enjoys autonomy, wants broader responsibility, and is confident managing the full commercial process from procurement through to final accounts.

The business delivers work across a varied project portfolio and is looking for someone who can work closely with subcontractors, identify cost-saving opportunities, and bring commercial control to projects from the outset.

The Role

You will be responsible for overseeing the commercial and buying function across the business, working closely with subcontractors and internal teams to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and profitably. This is a hands-on position with broad exposure and real influence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Taking ownership of the commercial function as the sole Quantity Surveyor in the business
  • Supporting and managing the buying function across projects
  • Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers to negotiate and secure best value
  • Preparing and reviewing bills of quantities
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities and improving commercial efficiency
  • Monitoring project costs through all stages of delivery
  • Managing projects commercially from initial stages through to final accounts
  • Supporting the wider team with commercial reporting and cost control

Ideal Background

  • Previous experience in a Quantity Surveyor role within construction, M&E, building services, or a related contractor environment
  • Strong understanding of procurement, subcontractor management, and cost control
  • Comfortable preparing bills of quantities and managing commercial processes end-to-end
  • Able to work independently and take ownership of a stand-alone commercial role
  • Commercially aware, proactive, and confident dealing with both internal teams and external subcontractors
  • Relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying or similar would be beneficial
