A Quantity Surveyor is required to support the Regional Commercial team in delivering the business plan, commercial objectives, budgets, and future growth requirements. The role is involved in a range of commercial activities, supporting the implementation, control, and reporting of all development and build-related expenditure.

The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys working collaboratively with colleagues across the region and across different disciplines, with strong attention to detail and accuracy throughout the valuation process. This role would suit someone who wants to make a meaningful contribution by supporting the delivery of affordable, high-quality homes in the communities that need them most.

The role also includes an element of mentoring, providing support and sharing knowledge with junior members of the team to aid their development. This requires a genuine willingness to support others, patience, and strong interpersonal skills.

Main Responsibilities

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will:

  • Actively manage build and infrastructure costs, cash flow, cost movements, variations, and budgeted financial information at site and plot level in line with company policies and procedures.

  • Manage working relationships with Housing Associations, third-party providers, and subcontractors to ensure contractual terms are met, and that all orders are placed, managed, and settled in accordance with company policies and processes.

  • Work closely with Assistant Quantity Surveyors, supporting their development, delegating appropriate work, and ensuring they operate in line with company procedures and standards.

  • Procure all subcontract trades, liaising with internal departments and following company procurement policies to secure best value and ensure all subcontractor prequalification requirements are met.

  • Provide detailed cost and budget analysis on a development-by-development and cost-item basis in line with the build programme, offering advice and guidance to Contracts Managers and Site Management on cost-saving opportunities and the mitigation or recovery of cost overruns.

  • Proactively manage communication with operational teams and internal and external stakeholders to support the successful delivery of the regional business plan.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Relevant qualification or solid experience in Quantity Surveying

  • Proficient in COINS and Microsoft Excel

  • Good understanding of the financial implications of build methods and sequencing

  • Good financial and commercial awareness, with sound technical knowledge

  • Good knowledge of the construction industry

  • Good knowledge of commercial and financial management systems and controls

  • Good understanding of codes of practice affecting commercial matters, including Building Regulations, NHBC requirements, and health and safety standards

  • Knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations

  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills

  • Energetic and driven, with the ability to positively influence others to ensure budgets, policies, and standards are maintained

  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with the resilience and maturity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced and demanding environment

  • Excellent communication and engagement skills with both site-based and regional colleagues

  • Commercially astute

  • Able to identify and promote innovative ideas

  • Full flexibility to travel to sites as required
