Key Responsibilities
Project Commercial Management
- Manage allocated projects to ensure they meet budgets and commercial targets
- Maintain cost visibility and financial control throughout the project lifecycle
Contract Administration
- Review contracts (JCT, NEC, bespoke) to protect commercial interests
- Support negotiations and ensure obligations are met
Valuations & Applications
- Prepare and submit monthly payment applications
- Monitor certifications and manage under-certification risks
Variations Management
- Identify, price, and negotiate variations promptly
- Maintain variation registers to protect project margins
Cost Control & Reporting
- Monitor project costs against budgets
- Assist with monthly commercial reports and WIP updates
Final Account Management
- Manage final account process progressively to achieve early agreement
- Resolve commercial issues before project completion
Risk Management & Collaboration
- Identify and escalate commercial risks, particularly on high-value projects
- Work closely with operations, design, estimating, and procurement teams
Client Relationship Management
- Build professional relationships with clients, main contractors, and consultants
- Represent the company professionally and commercially
Supporting Commercial Team Development
- Share best practices and mentor junior Quantity Surveyors
- Assist in improving commercial processes and systems
Who We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor
- Strong understanding of construction contracts (JCT, NEC, bespoke)
- Excellent commercial judgment and cashflow awareness
- Ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
Desirable:
- Construction-related qualifications
- Knowledge of financials and commercial strategy
- Experience mentoring or leading junior QS staff
