An established national housebuilder is looking to appoint an Engineer to join its regional Technical team, supporting the delivery of residential developments from a design, infrastructure and approvals perspective.

The role sits within the wider Design and Technical function, which is responsible for bringing new housing developments through the technical process, ensuring sites are designed effectively, compliantly and commercially. The position will involve overseeing externally appointed consulting engineers and coordinating key technical information across roads, sewers, drainage, foundations, services and external works.

This would suit someone from a civil engineering, structural engineering, technical coordination or residential development engineering background who understands the technical requirements involved in delivering new housing sites.


The Role

As Engineer, you will support the technical delivery of residential developments, ensuring infrastructure and engineering designs are progressed in line with build programmes.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Overseeing the design of infrastructure and groundworks packages for residential developments
  • Coordinating external consulting engineers responsible for roads, sewers, drainage, foundations and external works design
  • Reviewing designs to ensure they are practical, compliant, buildable and commercially effective
  • Supporting the procurement of services records and enquiries for new developments
  • Managing technical information relating to new services infrastructure to support build programmes
  • Securing and progressing adoption agreements, including Section 38, Section 104 and Section 278 agreements
  • Liaising with highway authorities, sewerage undertakers, utility providers and other statutory bodies
  • Supporting the discharge of planning conditions and building regulation requirements
  • Reviewing foundation solutions, levels, drainage strategies and external works proposals
  • Working closely with internal Technical, Commercial, Land, Planning and Construction teams
  • Providing input into structural designs for superstructure components where required
  • Ensuring bonds, approvals and agreements are progressed, reduced and closed out in line with programme requirements

The Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have a background in civil engineering, structural engineering, residential development engineering or technical design coordination.

You may currently be working as an Engineer, Development Engineer, Technical Engineer, Civil Engineer, Infrastructure Engineer, Design Engineer or Technical Coordinator within a housebuilder, residential developer, consultancy or engineering environment.

Experience in any of the following would be highly beneficial:

  • Residential development engineering
  • Roads and sewers design coordination
  • Drainage and external works
  • Foundation solutions
  • Section 38, Section 104 and Section 278 agreements
  • Utilities and services coordination
  • Technical approvals and statutory authority liaison
  • Consultant design management
  • Value engineering and buildability reviews

Key Requirements

  • HNC/HND or degree-level qualification in an engineering-related discipline
  • Previous experience in a design-related engineering environment
  • Experience working with civil or structural consulting engineers would be advantageous
  • Ability to review and coordinate technical drawings, designs and engineering information
  • Confident liaising with external bodies including highway authorities and sewerage undertakers
  • Strong understanding of residential infrastructure, groundworks and external works design
  • Ability to coordinate with internal and external design teams to meet development programmes
  • Good attention to detail and awareness of statutory compliance
  • Computer literate, with experience using Autodesk products beneficial
  • Experience with PDS or MicroDrainage would be advantageous but is not essential
