The Opportunity

Our client is an established and growing structural and civil engineering consultancy with a strong and varied project portfolio across the UK.

As part of their continued expansion, they are looking to appoint an experienced Chartered Structural Engineer to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong Chartered Engineer looking for a role that offers increased responsibility, varied project exposure and the opportunity to play a key part in the continued growth of a successful engineering consultancy.

The role offers flexibility across South Wales, Bristol and West London, making it an excellent opportunity for an engineer based in or around these areas.

The Role

As a Chartered Structural Engineer, you will take a leading role in the technical delivery of structural engineering projects, working closely with clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams.

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality engineering solutions while also supporting project development, client relationships and the mentoring of less experienced engineers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the structural design and delivery of a variety of projects.
  • Undertake and oversee structural analysis and design.
  • Produce and check structural calculations, reports and technical documentation.
  • Design structures using steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.
  • Review and approve technical designs and engineering outputs.
  • Manage projects from initial concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction.
  • Act as a key point of contact for clients and project stakeholders.
  • Liaise with architects, contractors and other consultants.
  • Attend client meetings, site visits, surveys and structural inspections.
  • Provide technical advice and solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes and Building Regulations.
  • Manage project programmes, resources and technical deliverables.
  • Assist with fee proposals, tenders and business development opportunities.
  • Mentor and support graduate and junior engineers.
  • Contribute to the continued development and growth of the structural engineering team.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Chartered Engineer status (CEng) with a recognised professional institution such as IStructE or ICE.
  • A degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Strong experience within a structural engineering consultancy.
  • Extensive experience in structural analysis and design.
  • Experience across a range of structural materials, including steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.
  • Proven experience delivering projects from concept through to construction.
  • Strong technical checking and design review experience.
  • Excellent client-facing and communication skills.
  • The ability to manage projects and take ownership of technical delivery.
  • Commercial awareness and an understanding of project budgets and fee management.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers.
  • A proactive approach with the ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.

Experience with structural analysis and design software, AutoCAD and/or Revit would be advantageous.
