The Opportunity

Our client is a highly regarded and growing structural and civil engineering consultancy with an established presence across the North of England.

Due to continued growth and an expanding portfolio of projects, they are looking to appoint an experienced Chartered Structural Engineer to join their team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong engineer who is looking to take the next step in their career, working on a diverse range of projects while taking a leading role in technical delivery, client relationships and project development.

The role offers the opportunity to work across Leeds, York and Middlesbrough, with flexibility around the successful candidate's location.

The Role

As a Chartered Structural Engineer, you will take responsibility for the technical delivery of structural engineering projects, working closely with clients, architects, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams.

You will have the opportunity to work across a varied project portfolio and will play an important role in mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the continued growth of the business.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the structural design and delivery of a variety of projects.
  • Undertaking and overseeing structural analysis and design.
  • Producing and checking structural calculations, reports and technical documentation.
  • Designing structures in steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.
  • Reviewing and approving technical designs and engineering outputs.
  • Managing projects from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and construction.
  • Acting as a key point of contact for clients and other project stakeholders.
  • Liaising with architects, contractors and other consultants.
  • Attending client meetings, site visits, surveys and inspections.
  • Providing technical advice and resolving complex engineering issues.
  • Ensuring designs comply with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes and Building Regulations.
  • Managing project programmes, resources and technical deliverables.
  • Supporting fee proposals, tenders and business development activities.
  • Mentoring and developing graduate and less experienced engineers.
  • Contributing to the continued development and growth of the structural engineering team.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally be:

  • A Chartered Structural Engineer (CEng) with a recognised professional institution such as the IStructE or ICE.
  • Degree qualified in Structural or Civil Engineering.
  • Experienced within a structural engineering consultancy environment.
  • Highly competent in structural analysis and design.
  • Experienced across a range of structural materials, including steel, reinforced concrete, timber and masonry.
  • Experienced in the delivery of projects from concept through to construction.
  • Confident dealing directly with clients, contractors and other consultants.
  • Experienced in checking and reviewing engineering calculations and designs.
  • Commercially aware with an understanding of project budgets and fee management.
  • A strong communicator with excellent technical and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable taking ownership of projects and providing technical leadership.
  • Keen to mentor and support the development of junior members of the team.

Experience with industry-standard structural design software, AutoCAD and/or Revit would be advantageous.
